Prohibited and restricted UAS zones in Lithuania

Main Lithuanian aerodromes and their impact zones:

• Vilnius (VNO) — largest controlled airspace in the capital region
• Kaunas (KUN) — central Lithuania airport
• Palanga (PLQ) — coastal region
• Šiauliai (SQQ) — military and civil airport (Zokniai)
• Panevėžys (PNV) — regional aerodrome
• Barysiai, S. Darius and S. Girėnas aerodromes — smaller but still restricted zones

Around each aerodrome the geo-zone map marks FRZ (Flight Restriction Zone) and CTR (Control Zone) areas. Flying there without ATC or competent authority permission is prohibited.

In Lithuania UAS flights are prohibited or strictly restricted in:

• Gaižiūnai military training area and surroundings
• Military unit locations
• State border protection strips (especially with Belarus and Kaliningrad)
• Seaports and strategic port facilities
• Presidential Palace, Parliament, and other protected state sites

These zones are marked on the geo-zone map as prohibited (red) or restricted (amber).

Flights in nature areas may be restricted to protect wildlife:

• Aukštaitija, Dzūkija, Samogitia, and Curonian Spit national parks — park director permission required
• Strict nature reserves — flights prohibited
• Ramsar zones (e.g. Nemunas delta) — migratory bird protection
• Bird ringing stations and nesting sites

Before flying over nature sites contact park administration or check their rules.

Recommended verification sequence:

1. 1Open the official Lithuanian / EU UAS geo-zone map
2. 2Enter flight coordinates or mark the area on the map
3. 3Review colour coding: red = prohibited, amber = restricted, blue = sensitive
4. 4Check NOTAM notices for temporary restrictions
5. 5If a zone is restricted — contact the competent authority for permission
6. 6Record the check date and result in your flight log
